Lecturer: Hiroshi Uyama, Professor, Osaka University
Title: Development Trends of Biodegradable Plastics
Abstract: Interest in biodegradable plastics has been growing since marine plastic wastes became a social problem. In addition, the spread of biomass plastics, which contribute to the prevention of global warming and the construction of circulating society, is also considered socially important. In this lecture, the recent development trends of bioplastics will be outlined, with a focus on biodegradable plastics.
14:10-15:10 Chair: Kenji Aoki, Director, Research Association of Nano Structured Polymer
Speaker: Hiroshi Sano, Mitsubishi Chemical
Title: Bioplastics Contribute to Green Transformation
– by leveraging biobased and biodegradable plastics
Abstract: Carbon Neutrality and Circular Economy are indispensable challenges to realize sustainable society toward the future. In the Green Transformation (GX), which will challenge these challenges, we will show the role of bioplastics; biobased plastics or/and biodegradable plastics, a new material that has penetrated the market in recent years from the standpoint of the chemical industry.

D. in 1988, I worked at the National Institute of Agrobiological Resources of MAFF before joining the Plant Engineering Laboratory of Mitsubishi Kasei (later Mitsubishi Chemical) in 1990, was engaged in molecular breeding of crops in Japan and overseas.
From 2002 to 2006, I was involved in management of an overseas biotechnology institute and projects of JBIC.
In my current position since 2007, I have been involved in technology and business development of biochemicals and bioplastics and commercialized two bioplastics.
I have also served in the Circular Economy Department (now the Green Transformation Division) as an advisor since 2019.
